Mountains & Hills
Rediscover Africa through the eyes of thosE who wander its vast and vibrant landscapes
PROJECT BRIEF
Our Mountains & Hills Project is dedicated to conserving Africa’s mountainous regions, which are among the continent’s most biodiverse and ecologically significant areas. From the towering peaks of Mount Kilimanjaro and the Ethiopian Highlands to the rolling hills of the Drakensberg, these landscapes support unique ecosystems, water sources, and a variety of plant and animal species found nowhere else in the world. They are also vital to the cultural and spiritual heritage of local communities, many of whom rely on these regions for their livelihoods through agriculture, grazing, and traditional practices. This project focuses on addressing issues such as deforestation, soil erosion, and the impacts of climate change, aiming to safeguard these delicate environments while supporting sustainable development for the people who depend on them.
Our approach goes beyond conservation, empowering mountain communities to become active participants in protecting their natural surroundings. By promoting sustainable farming techniques, reforestation projects, and eco-tourism, the Mountains & Hills Project creates opportunities for local economic growth that align with environmental preservation. We work closely with local leaders, environmentalists, and researchers to provide education and resources that strengthen resilience to environmental challenges. Through a combination of scientific research, community-driven initiatives, and policy advocacy, the project seeks to preserve the beauty and ecological value of Africa’s mountainous landscapes, ensuring that they continue to sustain biodiversity, cultural heritage, and livelihoods for generations to come.
